Color Inkjet Printers
Modern inkjet printers are characterized by their technical conception. The consumer receive a product with a good quality for a quite fair price. If you would like to benefit from a optimal color and print quality right from the start, you should opt for a color printer that has as many single color cartridges as possible. The larger the color portfolio of individual colors, the more natural the colors will appear on paper and the better the quality of the printout will be. Buying color cartridges is generally quite expensive. Color printers that include multiple color cartridges offer the benefit that if a cartridge is empty, only this one cartridg - and not the entire cartridge case - needs to be replaced. This saves money. nevertheless, you can still find color printers on the market, which use single CMYK combined cartridges.

Combined cartridges include several different colors in just one cartridge housing. This results in certain space savings inside the printer, but it does not really make sense for the user. The fact that the color which is used the most is empty does not necessarily mean that the whole cartridge is out of ink. You often have to dispose of combined certridges that still have enough paint in them to operate.
Differences between Inkjet and Laser Printers
What is the difference between an inkjet printer and a laser printer? Laser printers are unable to combine multiple colors with each other. Inkjet printers can do so, which results in a more natural color reproduction and a higher image quality. The laser printer prints individual colored dots close to each other onto the paper. The image quality is certainly also very good, however the fact is that printouts of a laser printer usually show a raster and the overall picture quality - depending on the printer model - suffers. If you want to buy a laser printer, you should pay attention to the resolution when selecting the printer model. The higher the resolution of the laser printer, the smaller the color dots are and the less visible the print-raster on the printouts will be. If you plan to print a lot of photos at home and put increased emphasis on high quality images, you should choose to buy an inkjet printer. If you only occasionally print a photo and have a lot more print volume in terms of texts and graphics, a laser printer is the right purchase recommendation.
Advantages of color inkjet printers
- Low purchase price
- High quality color and photo prints
- Ink cartridges can be refilled (cost savings)
Disadvantages of color inkjet printers
- Prints slower (fewer pages per minute) than a laser printer
- Printouts have to dry first and are not resistant to external influences
- Ink cartridges can dry up when the printer is not used regularly
Advantages of color laser printers
- Mostly low follow-up costs (toner)
- Prints fast
- Printed products are resistant to external influences (UV rays, moisture)
- Printout can be used immediately (no smearing)
Disadvantages of color laser printers
- Lesser photo print quality
- Higher purchase price

Costs
Color printers with inkjet technology start at a price of around €50. Color laser printers in the lower price segment start at about €150. The purchase costs of supplies such as color ink cartridges, toner cartridges and paper need to be added. It is worthwhile to keep the follow-up costs in mind rather than concentrating on the purchase price entirely. One advantage that color inkjet printers have to offer is a low purchase price. But you must sometimes accept that the ink on the paper smears when brushed or touched after printing. The printout must first dry for a few minutes before it can be further processed or used. Who wants to avoid this smearing is well advised to buy smudge-proof printer ink. As wet as the ink can be on paper, sometimes it is to dry inside of the printer. If an inkjet color printer is rarely used, the ink can dry and block up the cartridge. As a result, the printhead doesen't funktion propper anymore and requires extensive cleaning or replacement. The problem is that the purchase of a printhead can be more expensive than the purchase price of the printer.
Imaging and Print Quality
Laser printer printouts are not at risk of smearing when touched directly after printing. Moreover, while the color of an ink jet printer printout may fade after a while, the toner of an laser printer printout stays sharp and clear. With a laser printer the durability of a printed image is simply better. However, the above-mentioned raster appearance should not be forgotten. The quality of a printed image of a color printers is in general good. High quality printers can print with a high color brilliance. When it comes to printing graphics or colored text, the quality of a color printer, whether laser or inkjet, is convincing. When printing photos, however, compromises in quality often have to be made. To ensure very good print quality, inkjet printers needs to use a lot of ink. This means comparatively high print costs per page. In addition, it takes a relatively long time until a color printout is finished. Laser printers score with their good performance. The color printout is done within a very short time. In terms of printing costs, money can be saved with a laser color printer compared to an inkjet printer.

Ways to save Money:
Only few color printers require the use of original manufacturer's color cartridges. It is worthwhile to use color cartridges from lesser-known providers in order to reduce costs. The print quality does not change. However, not every color printer is compatible with third-party cartridges. Refilling ink cartridges is also an option to consider.
